Sorry, I probably wasn't clear enough.
I meant use '(' ')' around  macro arguments (to avoid un-predicted side-effects with operands associativity):
uint32_t size = sizeof(*(addr)) ...;
...
if ((value & (mask)) cond (expected))
...
