Subject: [EXT] please help backporting some patches to stable release 19.11.7

External Email

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi commit authors (and maintainers),

I didn't apply following commits from DPDK main to 19.11 stable branch, as conflicts or build errors occur.

Can authors check your patches in the following list and either:
    - Backport your patches to the 19.11 branch, or
    - Indicate that the patch should not be backported

Please do either of the above by 02/11/21.

You can find the a temporary work-in-progress branch of the coming 19.11.7 release at:
    https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__github.com_cpaelzer_dpdk-2Dstable-2Dqueue&d=DwIDAg&c=nKjWec2b6R0mOyPaz7xtfQ&r=M6lEONY3jVnAkBjt0yC6oAsT7Jn2HI7LhNHCQYlnx1Q&m=M5CpZp2UKV6jk5pCX1zLzz45xxKKK3usSPbzLp_PRbc&s=5LzKLligLPHGBCczQZXJ-gnb5Max090w0vQkdcGxeZM&e=
It is recommended to backport on top of that to minimize further conflicts or misunderstandings.

Some notes on stable backports:

A backport should contain a reference to the DPDK main branch commit in it's commit message in the following fashion:
    [ upstream commit <commit's dpdk main branch SHA-1 checksum> ]

For example:
    https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__git.dpdk.org_dpdk-2Dstable_commit_-3Fh-3D18.11-26id-3Dd90e6ae6f936ecdc2fd3811ff9f26aec7f3c06eb&d=DwIDAg&c=nKjWec2b6R0mOyPaz7xtfQ&r=M6lEONY3jVnAkBjt0yC6oAsT7Jn2HI7LhNHCQYlnx1Q&m=M5CpZp2UKV6jk5pCX1zLzz45xxKKK3usSPbzLp_PRbc&s=urj3GGhOaOJFkiOogX7duaB2eB3Qj0H1ptUMBsAR7H8&e=

When sending the backported patch, please indicate the target branch in the subject line, as we have multiple branches, for example:
    [PATCH 19.11] foo/bar: fix baz

With git format-patch, this can be achieved by appending the parameter:
    --subject-prefix='PATCH 19.11'

Send the backported patch to "stable@dpdk.org" but not "dev@dpdk.org".

FYI, branch 19.11 is located at tree:
   https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__git.dpdk.org_dpdk-2Dstable&d=DwIDAg&c=nKjWec2b6R0mOyPaz7xtfQ&r=M6lEONY3jVnAkBjt0yC6oAsT7Jn2HI7LhNHCQYlnx1Q&m=M5CpZp2UKV6jk5pCX1zLzz45xxKKK3usSPbzLp_PRbc&s=C65bE4aFCvPdHGkUHqHeaU2pN7in7Recs9s9TQpkMgY&e=

Thanks.

Patch for commit 7be7dc6dea
For commit 820778fad6 I'm not sure it's worthwhile backporting. [Adding Maxime to get his input as vhost maintainer.]

I agree it may not be worthwhile, let's drop it.

Thanks,
Maxime

These patches need no backporting, because they fix code in upstream only.

I have posted these:

73d1cc96be Lance Richardson net/bnxt: fix doorbell write ordering
c86e930165 Lance Richardson net/bnxt: fix fallback mbuf allocation logic
e750acef45 Lance Richardson net/bnxt: fix outer UDP checksum Rx
offload capability

These are dependent on a number of changes that are only present in
20.11 and later, I don't think they are good candidates for back-porting:

d5bbd72246 Lance Richardson net/bnxt: make offload flags mapping per-ring
48a580c5df Lance Richardson net/bnxt: set correct checksum status in mbuf

Hi everyone,
I wanted to use this chance to send my thanks to so many participating people.
So far I've got some feedback about patches I don't need to care for
19.11.7 (thanks).
But even more important we've had 9 active contributors providing 14
backports already.
Looking at past releases that is a good amount of feedback.
And while I know that a good project is never built on just a few
people, I still wanted
to use the chance to thank the following people for their help on
towards 19.11.7:

Bruce Richardson <bruce.richardson@intel.com>
Jiawei Wang <jiaweiw@nvidia.com>
Lance Richardson <lance.richardson@broadcom.com>
Min Hu (Connor) <humin29@huawei.com>
Murphy Yang <murphyx.yang@intel.com>
Shiri Kuzin <shirik@nvidia.com>
Steve Yang <stevex.yang@intel.com>
Suanming Mou <suanmingm@nvidia.com>
Tal Shnaiderman <talshn@nvidia.com>

Kind Regards,
Christian

P.S. github.com:cpaelzer/dpdk-stable-queue.git is updated with the
above and I'm looking forward to further finalize this once 21.02 is
released.

No problem, Christian, happy to help, and thank you for doing the work of pulling together the LTS release.

Hi, Christian

The status of Mellanox/Nvidia patches for 19.11.7:

Merged:
app/testpmd: fix packets dump overlapping
net/mlx5: fix VXLAN decap on non-VXLAN flow
net/mlx5: fix crash on secondary process port close

Sent to stable ML (waiting for merge):
net/mlx4: fix device detach

Not applicable:
net/mlx5: remove CQE padding device argument (changes the devargs, not critical at all)
net/mlx5: fix Verbs memory allocation callback (requires shared context update, not critical)

With best regards,
Slava

Hi Christian,
I just posted the backported version of
patches 1 and 2 above . The 3rd one ( 70517a3a8f Somnath Kotur
net/bnxt: fix PF resource query)
is not applicable for a backport as it's needs some other changes that
are in 20.08 etc . Please apply the ones i've sent to 19.11.7

Thanks
Som

Hi, Christian

The patch 'b9c366e029' depends on the following two patch series:
1. Enable Checksum Offloading for NEON vector
a). net/ixgbe: add new flag of stripped VLAN for NEON vector
b). net/ixgbe: support bad checksum flag for NEON vector
c). net/ixgbe: support good checksum flag for NEON vector
d). net/ixgbe: enable IXGBE NEON vector when need to checksum
These patches weren't added fix bug tag when they are merged, and I just have sent them to stable@dpdk.org.

2. net/ixgbe: fix UDP zero checksum on x86: 9a40edb599d76f7f9d116bb2f91b23c082b5f154
This patch is not merged to 19.11 version.

I think if above two series are merged to 19.11, the conflicts and errors can be fixed.

Best Regards
Feifei
