Hi

With dpdk v.19.11.14 I built dpdk for target 'x86_64-native-linux-gcc'
using usertools/dpdk-setup.sh (option 44).

The resulting directory structure included:

$ ls dpdk-stable-19.11.14/x86_64-native-linux-gcc
app build include kmod lib Makefile

I am now moving to dpdk v.20.11.10 in which usertools/dpdk-setup.sh is
deprecated. I build with:

$ meson -Dexamples=all build
$ cd build
$ ninja

which results in:

$ ls build
app          buildtools             config  drivers   lib
meson-logs     meson-uninstalled   usertools
build.ninja  compile_commands.json  doc     examples  meson-info
meson-private  rte_build_config.h

which is quite different to the v.19 build. For example, there is now
no 'include' directory.

I don't want to 'install' because I am experimenting with different
dpdk versions.

Is it possible to produce a target directory in v.20.11.10 similar to
that of dpdk-stable-19.11.14/x86_64-native-linux-gcc?

Best regards
David

Well, I live with many different versions of DPDK.
The only trick is to pass a -Dprefix=$(pwd)/install and make your
application use this directory.

An installed dpdk should be quite similar.

Hi David

Thanks for your reply,

meson -Dexamples=all -Dprefix="/" build

is doing what I need.

I do have a further problem. The resulting build has no pmd drivers.
It is probably relevant that the output of the first meson command
includes:

=================
Content Skipped
=================

libs:

drivers:
        common/mvep:    missing dependency, "libmusdk"
        common/mlx5:    missing dependency, "mlx5"
        crypto/qat:     missing dependency, libcrypto
        net/af_xdp:     missing dependency, "libbpf"
        net/ipn3ke:     missing dependency, "libfdt"
        net/mlx4:       missing dependency, "mlx4"
        net/mlx5:       missing internal dependency, "common_mlx5"
        net/mvneta:     missing dependency, "libmusdk"
        net/mvpp2:      missing dependency, "libmusdk"
etc.

Many of those libraries are installed, but not libmusdk. Is that
essential? (I am using a Broadwell NIC).

Best regards
David

You can also build and link against an uninstalled DPDK by using the pkg-config files in the "meson-uninstalled" directory of your build.

For example, to get linker line use:
	"PKG_CONFIG_PATH=./build/meson-uninstalled/ pkg-config --libs libdpdk"

Agreed.

Thanks for your reply. That problem is fixed now. I am going to start
a new thread for my driver problem.

Best regards
David
