Subject: [dpdk-users] Running DPDK on VM causes CPU soft lockup
Date: Fri, 16 Oct 2015 15:42:15 +0300	[thread overview]
Message-ID: <CAPykWKEpA3o=b1wwp5RHGohqmORdt_uM9qPU2=-=9Hp=BUeh5w@mail.gmail.com> (raw)

Hello DPDK community.

I am running DPDK 2.1.0 on KVM guest OS Ubuntu LTS 14.04 3.13 kernel.
I'm using sandy bridge CPU, guest running on 4 CPUs and 8GB RAM and 2 vNICs
virtio.
Running testpmd causes to stuck ip process and drops SSH sessions (seems
whole stack goes down)
Following output occurred:

[960.004535] BUG: soft lockup - CPU#3 stuck for 23s! [ip:8419]

This kind of message repeats until hard reboot of guest OS.
Does anything I might done wrong, such as not unbinding NICs from kernel
driver? Or what is the best way to run DPDK on guest ubuntu os?
