A few people have been asking about the dates for our European (Userspace) and USA DPDK Summits, so I wanted to send an update on the status. Planning for these is a little behind where we've been in previous years, because we needed to complete the transition to the LF and get the governing board in place before the dates and budgets could be agreed.

For Europe, we're planning the following:
Date: Tuesday September 26 & Wednesday September 27
Venue: The Clayton Hotel, Ballsbridge, Dublin (same venue as last year)
Attendance: Like previous years, it will be limited to ~100 in order to keep the event as interactive as possible.

For the USA, the details are:
Date: Tuesday November 14 & Wednesday November 15
Venue: Club Auto Sport, 521 Charcot Ave, San Jose, CA 95131

Both of these are now listed on http://dpdk.org/events.

Planning for both of these events (finalizing contracts with the venues etc.) is still in progress, so they're not 100% confirmed yet (i.e. don't book travel yet just in case there are any last minute changes). As soon as everything is confirmed we'll send links to start registration and CFP for both of these. In the meantime, I'd encourage people to start thinking about topics they'd like to present.

For anybody planning to attend our DPDK Summit Userspace event in Dublin (September 26/27), registration is now open at: https://dpdksummit.com/.

The CFP for this event is also now open. You can submit presentation proposals at: https://dpdksummit.com/AbstractProposalSubmission.aspx. The deadline for submissions is Friday August 25th.

Since this is a technical conference aimed at DPDK software developers, proposals should focus on the main technical challenges for the project, including things like:
- New APIs, libraries and features
- DPDK changes required to facilitate hardware acceleration
- Technical challenges facing the DPDK community, including parts of the code that need to be refactored
- Improvements to interworking with the Linux kernel
- Improvements to performance, usability and packaging
- Virtualization and container networking
- Innovative networking technologies such as P4, and their impact on DPDK

Another thing to consider when submitting proposals is that Userspace is an interactive event where we focus more on discussion and less on presentation. Ideally, we're looking for topics where somebody can give a short presentation to introduce a topic and describe the main technical challenges, and then lead a discussion where the rest of the community can give their views and we can try to reach agreement on the next steps. A great example from last year was the session Olivier presented on the mbuf changes.

At the moment, Trishan (our Linux Foundation Project Manager) is working with the Governing Board and the Technical Board to create a working group for planning/managing DPDK events. We'll use a subset of that working group to review presentation proposals and finalise the agenda.

For anybody attending the DPDK Summit Userspace event in Dublin, we now have a discounted rate of €169 per night set up with the Clayton Hotel. To get this you can book via the hotel website (https://www.claytonhotelballsbridge.com/) and enter a code of KTSE260917. The discounted rate only applies on Monday 25th and Tuesday 26th Sept. The rate is available until 10th September. Anybody booking after that will get the regular rate. If you have any problems using this, or if you've already booked at a higher rate and want to ask about changing, you can call (+353-1-668-1111) or email (reservations.ballsbridge@claytonhotels.com) the hotel.

Also, a reminder that the CFP closes on Friday, so if you're planning to submit a proposal please do so at: https://dpdksummit.com/AbstractProposalSubmission.aspx. Finally, if you haven't registered yet, please do so at: https://dpdksummit.com/us/en/registration-userspace.

The agenda for the DPDK Summit Userspace event in Dublin is available now at: https://dpdksummit.com/. We had far more proposals than we could fit in, so it was difficult to decide which ones to include. We tried to prioritise the key technical topics that should generate some discussion/debate at the event. If you're planning to attend and haven't already done so, you should register via https://dpdksummit.com/.

For our DPDK Summit North America event, you can now register and submit presentation proposals at: http://events.linuxfoundation.org/events/dpdk-north-america-summit. The event is on November 14th and 15th at Club Auto Sport in San Jose. The CFP closes on Wednesday October 4th.
