IANAL but it is possible to go from BSD to GPL and it is done all the time.
The other way is not possible. You only have to see the OpenOffice -> LibreOffice
as an example.  LibreOffice can freely take anything out of OpenOffice but
OpenOffice can not take from LibrOffice.
